Terms of Service
Last updated: 24 June 2026
These terms govern your use of What's in my Fridge ("the app"), operated by
John Bell (sole trader), trading as "What's in my Fridge" ("we", "us"). By using the app you agree to these terms.
If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
⚠️ Important: food safety
Expiry and "use by" dates in the app are often estimates calculated from
when an item was added — they are a convenience, not a guarantee. Always check food
yourself and follow the actual packaging dates and storage guidance. Do not rely on
the app to decide whether food is safe to eat. We are not responsible for food spoilage,
illness, or loss arising from reliance on the app's estimates or AI suggestions.
The service
The app helps you track what's in your fridge, freezer and pantry, scan photos/receipts using
AI, build a shopping list, and ask questions about your inventory. Features may change over time.
Your account
- You must provide accurate information and keep your login secure.
- You're responsible for activity under your account.
- You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your country.
Free plan, trials and subscriptions
- The app offers a free plan with monthly limits and a paid Plus subscription (£3.99/month) with higher limits.
- New accounts receive a time-limited free trial of Plus (currently 14 days). After it ends, you revert to the free plan unless you subscribe.
- Subscriptions are billed securely through our payment provider, Stripe, and renew automatically each month until cancelled. We never see or store your full card details.
- You can cancel anytime from Account → Manage subscription. Cancellation stops future renewals and takes effect at the end of the current paid period — you keep Plus until then.
- Because Plus gives immediate access to a digital service, you agree it begins right away. Once a billing period has started it is generally non-refundable, but if something has gone wrong, email us and we'll be fair.
- We may change prices or plan limits with reasonable notice; changes won't affect a period you've already paid for.
Discontinuing the service
We may stop offering the app at any time. If we decide to close it down:
- We'll give you reasonable advance notice in the app and by email.
- We'll stop new sign-ups and stop renewing or charging existing subscriptions.
- Any Plus subscription you've already paid for will continue until the end of the period you paid for — we won't cut it short. If we ever have to close before a paid period ends, we'll refund the unused portion on a pro-rata basis.
- Before we close, we'll give you a window to export your data; after that we'll delete it in line with our Privacy Policy.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the app for anything unlawful, or upload content you don't have the right to.
- Attempt to bypass plan limits, create accounts to abuse free features, or disrupt the service.
- Reverse engineer, scrape, or misuse the AI features (e.g. submitting content unrelated to food management).
We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms.
AI features
Scanning and chat use third-party AI. Results can be inaccurate or incomplete — please review
what's added and use your own judgement. The AI does not provide professional, dietary, medical
or safety advice.
Recipes, cooking & allergens
Meal ideas, recipes, cooking times, temperatures and methods are AI-generated
suggestions for general guidance only — not professional food-safety, nutritional or
medical advice, and they may be wrong or incomplete.
- You are responsible for cooking food safely. Cook higher-risk foods (such as poultry, pork, mince, sausages, eggs and shellfish) thoroughly, and store, cool and reheat food safely. Follow Food Standards Agency guidance and the instructions on product packaging.
- Allergens: the dietary and "avoid" filters are a convenience and can be incomplete or wrong. Never rely on the app to keep an allergen out of a meal. Always read the ingredient label on every product yourself. The app must not be used as a substitute for checking labels where you or anyone you're cooking for has a food allergy or intolerance.
- For any allergy, intolerance, medical or dietary condition (including pregnancy), consult a GP, pharmacist or registered dietitian. The app does not give clinical or personalised medical advice.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for illness, injury or loss
arising from reliance on recipes, cooking guidance or allergen/dietary suggestions in the app.
Your content
Your fridge data and photos remain yours. You grant us the permissions needed to operate the
app (e.g. processing a photo through our AI provider to recognise items, and storing your
inventory to sync it). See our Privacy Policy.
Disclaimers & liability
The app is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by
law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data, food spoilage, or losses
arising from reliance on estimates or AI output. Nothing in these terms limits liability that
cannot be limited by law.
Termination
You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if you breach these terms or if we discontinue the service.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to its courts.
Changes
We may update these terms; we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app. Continued use means you accept the updated terms.
